The Roman Empire – vanished?
Antiquity – long gone? Perhaps. But in Trier, you can still meet them: genuine Romans who knew the city as Augusta Treverorum, who were present during the reign of Constantine and the creation of his grand imperial building projects such as the Cathedral, the Basilica, and the Imperial Baths.
Some of them had connections to the imperial family, others worked as ordinary Roman citizens in the city of cities. And no one could describe the pride and splendor of that era better, celebrate it more enthusiastically, or bring it more vividly to life in your mind’s eye than they could. Follow our Roman city guides on their tour through the city. Let them explain the Basilica and other buildings from the inside. And let these ancient eyewitnesses tell you how much of Rome is still present in our everyday lives.
